Hardfacing Alloys

Hardfacing products are available for restoring parts that have been worn down due to metal-to-metal friction, severe impact, severe abrasion or abrasion plus impact to their original size. Hardfacing products can also be used for overlay to add a protective layer to carbon steel surfaces.

By definition, a stick electrode is a short stick of welding filler metal consisting of a core of bare electrode covered by chemical or metallic materials that provide shielding of the welding arc against the surrounding air. It also completes the electrical circuit, thereby creating the arc. (Also known as SMAW, or Stick Metal Arc Welding.) Weartech’s hardfacing electrodes deposit quickly, with excellent weldability and slag removal, producing smooth, sound deposits. These electrodes can be applied using either AC or DC current. However, DC reverse polarity is the preferred method.

Our wide range of cobalt-base metal-cored wires is suitable for both automatic and semi-automatic applications. The standard alloys are used for MIG/metal-cored and solid welding while specially modified versions can be used for open arc welding. Like a stick electrode, MIG wire completes the electrical circuit creating the arc, but it is continually fed through a welding gun from a spool or drum. MIG wire is a solid, non-coated wire and receives shielding from a mixture of gases. (Process is also known as GMAW, or Gas Metal Arc Welding.)

Weartech offers gas-atomized hardfacing alloy powders. The particle shape is generally spherical and a well-controlled sieve analysis enhances flow characteristics. Weartech’s powders produce clean sound deposits due to low gas contents. Our metal powders are available in a wide range of different sieve analyses to suit various application methods.
