Sand CastingsThe Oldest Casting Method
This is a process in which a molten metal is poured into a mold made of sand.
The oldest known casting method, sand casting, gets its name from the process in which the molten metal is poured into a compacted or compressed sand mold. Sand casting is ideal for large components in small quantities. Sand molds are made using sand comprised of multiple binders packed in a two-part wooden form. The form is then filled with molten metal and allowed to cool. Some machining is generally required when using sand castings. The flexibility to create practically any design has made this casting method stand the test of time and technology.
